The following questions will help you understand more about what you may need for your oil deliveries or for repairs to your furnace.
I just moved into a house with an oil furnace and I don’t know anything about it! How do I order oil?
A: You can order a specific quantity of oil such as 100 gallons; you can have your tank filled; OR, you may want to just budget a certain amount of money for your oil delivery. In general, the more gallons of oil you purchase at one time, the lower the price per gallon is.
Is there a best time of year to purchase heating oil?
A: It is best to fill your tank before the heating season begins. Keeping your tank full or at last mostly full in the summer will help prevent water build up in your tank due to condensation.
What happens if I run out of oil?
A: Your furnace will stop running and you will need to order more oil. Restarting the furnace is usually as simple as pushing the reset button on the oil burner. If that does not work we have a 24 hour emergency service available.
Is is hard for my furnace to run out of oil?
A: It’s better for your heating system to NOT to let it run out of heating oil but it seldom causes damage. Refill your oil tank before it gets much less than a quarter full for best results.
Is oil heat clean?
A: Oil heat is as clean as any other energy source for home heating. A properly maintained oil furnace will not put out any visible smoke from the chimney and there will be no dust, soot or smelt inside either.
Is oil heat safe?
A: Yes oil heat is very safe. Many say it may be considered the safest type of heat because it will not explode nor will it get so hot as to catch anything on fire. Yet oil heat is the warmest heat coming out of a heat vent. Thus it warms your home quickly, safely and cost effectively.
How do I know it is more cost-effective to repair my old heating system or replace it?
A: You can call our service department to schedule someone to come3 out and evaluate your heating and oil equipment.
Does my furnace or A/C unit need to be cleaned?
A: Yes! Heating and air conditioning systems operate for months on end and need regular maintenance–just like your car. Without the regular maintenance of a tune-up, you lose efficiency and money.
Is there any difference between the oil you sell and any other company?
A: No. There is no difference; all oil companies in Connecticut sell the same number 2 heating oil.
How long after I complete my order will you deliver my oil?
A: Generally speaking, it takes the same day or 1 day after we have received the order for the delivery to be made.
Do I have to be home when you deliver my oil?
A: Nobody has to be home as long as the driver has the fill location of the tank and payment has been provided.
What if I am having problems with my furnace?
A: We have fully licensed service technicians available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year if a problem were to arise with your furnace.
Do you offer service contracts?
A: Yes! Our service contracts run early and include the annual cleaning. 24 hour emergency service and your parts and labor. Please call for current rates?
Do you have automatic delivery?
A: Yes! Our automatic COD plan continues to offer the great prices that we are known for. This allows us to maintain the schedule for your deliveries. As with all COD accounts, this plan has no service contract connected to it. All service is offered at normal rates. To access this program a customer must agree to place a credit/debit card on file with Parkway Oil Company and authorize us to debit the card each time a delivery is made.
Can I leave a personal check for my delivery?
A: Yes, we do accept personal checks for delivery; however, a customer needs to have at least three deliveries paid with cash, bank check or money order, or a debit or credit card over the phone at no additional charge before we can accept a check for deliveries.
How do I know when I need to order oil?
A: If you have an inside tank, you will need to order oil when your gauge reads one-quarter (1/4). If you have outside tank and you are using a measuring stick, you want to orer when it is measuring stick, you want to order when it is measuring between 10 and 12 inches. It is important to not let it go below this, as it could cause problems your oil burner.
What method of payment do you accept?
A: We accept cash, bank check or money order, and credit or debit cards over the phone at no additional cost. We also take personal checks after you have had at least 3 deliveries with out company.
Does my chimney need to be cleaned?
A: Chimneys should be inspected and cleaned every two to three years.
